Sara's Childhood

The Story of Sara Beth Swan

In nineteen eighty-three, mid-October skies,
A baby was born with violet-brown eyes.
In Lodi, California, her first little cry,
To George Eliot Swan and Cherie Anne Swank nearby.

She was the fifth child — oh, what a sight!
A house full of laughter from morning to night.
When they brought her home, such a squeeze it had been—
Her dad laughed and called her his little sardine!

They loved her so dearly, both mother and dad,
And taught her of Jesus, the joy to be had.
But love can be tricky, and hearts sometimes part—
So when she was two, life made a new start.

Her mom moved to Provo, to start life anew,
While Dad stayed in California, with skies bright and blue.
Mom remarried, then married again—
Three husbands, three boys — new family, new friends.

But the divorce split up their children and home,
And Sara Beth Swan often felt alone.
She didn’t grow up with all siblings in one place,
And still today, their closeness she can’t fully embrace.
She sees the damage the divorce left behind,
And how it changed her heart, reshaping her mind.

Now Sara Beth Swan, she was clever and bright,
With dark flowing hair and freckles just right.
Tall and so slender, with eyes dark as night,
Some even called them violet in light!

She looked like her sister, her Heather so near,
Just sixteen months older — they’d both disappear!
Two peas in a pod, so the neighbors would grin,
“Twins!” they would whisper — and both girls would spin.

Sara loved walking as stars filled the skies,
Counting night-birds with wonder-filled eyes.
She’d dress up for Halloween — oh, what delight!
The magic of costumes, the thrill of the night.

She painted her lips with iris bloom blue,
Pretending and playing, as dreamers will do.
Sometimes she’d wander behind local stores,
Finding hidden treasures from old dusty drawers.

From ribbons to buttons, to dolls with one shoe,
She’d clean them, fix them, and make them like new!
Her hands turned the simplest scraps into art—
She made beauty from nothing, straight out of her heart.

She grew and she grew, through sunshine and rain,
Through laughter and learning, through joy and through pain.
She’d stay with her mom through the school-time days,
Then visit her dad for the holidays.

By fourth grade, the seasons had shifted again,
She lived with her dad through the school-year then.
She made many friends, though quiet and shy,
Too timid to answer when the phone rang nearby.

But oh, she could run — like the wind through the trees!
And draw lovely pictures with effort and ease.
She built and created from whatever she had,
Her thrift turned to magic — and that made her glad.

So here’s to young Sara, brave-hearted and true,
With violet-dark eyes and a spirit that grew.
Though life’s broken pieces left marks on her way,
Love, hope, and faith helped her light every day.

How we met and fell in love

🌷 God’s Perfect Plan

The True Story of Sara Swan and James Mortensen

A Whimsical Tale of Faith, Love, and Eternal Promises

---

✨ Scripture

> “Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.
In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.”
— Proverbs 3:5–6

---

✨ Dedication

For James—
my forever love, my favorite duet.
And for our nine beautiful children,
proof that God’s plans are always better than our own.

---

God’s Perfect Plan

---

Page 1
In the valley of Utah, where mountains kiss skies,
Lived Sara Swan, with brown hopeful eyes.
She studied at UVSC, working each day,
Dreaming that blessings were not far away.

---

Page 2
One morning she prayed, “Please, Lord, guide my way.”
Then she waited and hoped through the rest of the day.
The phone rang at last—her heart gave a start,
But the answer she heard broke her dear heart.

---

Page 3
A kind voice said gently, “I’m sorry, my dear,
The job has been filled—it won’t be here.”
Sara thanked them softly, hung up the call,
And whispered, “Dear Father, I gave it my all.”

---

Page 4
But up in the heavens, where angels sing true,
God smiled and said, “I have something new.
Some angels are waiting—your children, you see—
They’re helping to guide you to who you should be.”

---

Page 5
So instead of that job in an office grand,
Sara worked at a gas station, humble and bland.
Near BYU’s campus, she swept and she smiled,
Not knowing her story was changing—by miles!

---

Page 6
One breezy day, when clouds danced by,
A handsome young man rode in on the fly.
His motorcycle hummed, his green eyes gleamed,
And Sara thought softly, “He’s the man I dreamed.”

---

Page 7
She wanted him to see her, to glance her way,
So she grabbed the trash without delay.
Out she went, with courage anew—
And oh! that handsome man looked too!

He thought to himself, “Why can’t I marry a girl like that?”

---

Page 8
He smiled and walked in, his heart skipping fast,
He’d never seen beauty quite like that in the past.
He said with a grin, both gentle and keen,

> “You’re the prettiest gas station girl I’ve ever seen.”

---

Page 9
His name was James Mortensen, kind and true,
And from that small moment, their friendship grew.
They laughed and played through bright, happy days,
In canyons and parks, in sweet sunshine rays.

---

Page 10 (Für Elise Moment)
One evening at BYU, James played Für Elise,
And Sara’s heart danced along with the keys.
As his fingers moved with heavenly grace,
A warm smile spread across her face.
In that very moment, she knew it was true—
She was in love with James, and she would marry him too.
“Now I can see—this is the man God planned for me,”
She whispered inside, full of joy and certainty.

---

Page 11 (Snow Scene)
One winter’s drive toward Arizona’s glow,
They stopped by the roadside covered in snow.
They planned to fall back—“Let’s count to three!”—
But Sara stepped back, and James took the spree!

---

Page 12
Down he fell with a thud! and a groan,
The snow was so hard—it was nearly stone!
They laughed till they cried, all covered in white,
And Sara knew then—this felt just right.

---

Page 13
Then Easter arrived with sunshine and song,
And James had been planning something all along.
He’d hidden bright eggs for her to find,
Each one holding a clue, carefully lined.

---

Page 14
When she followed the trail to the front door wide,
There knelt James with a ring by his side.
Sara gasped, joy shining so bright,
She fell to her knees and whispered, “Yes, I do.”

---

Page 15
But the ring that he offered, so simple and bright,
Had cost him his motorcycle, his pride and delight.
He’d sold his beloved wheels one day,
To give his true love her ring in that way.
For bikes and bright things will all fade away,
But covenants of marriage forever will stay.

---

Page 16 (Wedding and Honeymoon Final)
They married in June, though raindrops fell from the sky,
Yet laughter and love made spirits soar high.
In the Timpanogos Temple, like a castle so grand,
They joined their hearts, hand in hand.
The day was perfect, their hearts full and true,
A wedding to cherish their whole life through.

For their honeymoon, they traveled to Cancun,
Played in the ocean beneath the bright moon.
James said “Pretty Woman” with a grin so wide,
And Sara laughed, full of joy by his side.

---

Page 17
Through years full of laughter, through trials and tears,
Their bond has grown stronger with all of their years.
And when James plays Für Elise on the piano once more,
Sara’s heart feels as tender as ever before.

---

💕 Moral of the Story

When life doesn’t go as we carefully plan,
Remember—God always has a better hand.
His path may twist, His timing delay,
But His blessings will bloom in the sweetest way.

📘 Back-Cover Blurb

Sometimes the plans we make are not the ones Heaven keeps.
When Sara Swan missed out on the job she wanted most,
she never imagined God was guiding her toward something far greater—
a chance meeting at a gas station that would change her life forever.
This heart-warming, true-to-life fairy tale reminds readers of all ages
that God’s timing is perfect, love is eternal, and miracles often begin
in the simplest places.

Her sweet committed Dad took this cute girl to get her nails done for the first time. 5 hours later we saw them again but look how cute they turned out
Shiloh designed each one. She has been begging for months to get this done.. James said while they were doing them she looked like she was on the longest Disney ride ever. Lol

Grandpa Marcs 80th birthday!

"A Tale of Family and Heart”

In a camper they slept, all cozy and tight,
A family of nine, under stars each night.
From tall Royce to baby sweet Primrose fair,
They traveled with love and stories to share.

Mom packed the snacks, Dad checked the tires,
They followed the road, through dreams and desires.
To Manti they went, to laugh and to play,
To see old friends they’d missed every day.

---

Royce was the oldest, strong, tall, and fast,
He dreamed of the future, and learned from the past.
He threw the football with a confident grin,
And reminded them all: "Teamwork will win!"

Jesse with books in his lap every mile,
Read stories aloud with a calm, steady smile.
He said, “Let’s be kind. Let’s listen. Let’s grow.”
His stories brought peace wherever they'd go.

Shiloh could flip, could run, kick, and spin—
At soccer or splits, she'd always win.
She taught them to try, and never give in,
Even when journeys felt thin as a pin.

Jonah, poor boy, was sick on the ride,
He slept with a blanket tucked close to his side.
But even in sickness, he softly said,
"I’m grateful for love and a trailer bed."

Rockwell, with muscles and glasses just right,
Had a soft little voice, but a heart big and bright.
He helped baby Prim and tucked her in bed,
And said, “Kindness is louder than shouting,” he said.

Sundance, the five-year-old wild little star,
Lost a tooth last week but still shined from afar.
He asked “Why?” and “How?” and had so much to say—
"Being yourself is the best kind of way!"

Primrose, the baby, both sassy and sweet,
Danced in the camper with bare little feet.
She smiled at strangers and waved like a queen,
"Be sweet and be strong, and don’t be too mean!"

Then back in the Escalade with the music turned low,
They whispered and dreamed of the place they would go.
Back to Manti, where the old house stood,
Creaky and cracked, but a home that felt good.

With peeling paint and a rusty old floor,
But dreams in their hearts and tools to restore.
They said, “We can fix it, together we’ll try!”
As they looked at the home with a family sigh.

---

So what is the moral? What’s good to recall?
It’s not where you live, it’s the love in us all.
Be brave like Royce, be kind like Jess,
Try hard like Shiloh and help in a mess.

Be grateful like Jonah,
Be quiet but strong like Rockwell,
Be curious like Sundance, even when wrong.
Be sweet like Prim, and together you’ll see—
A family in love is the best place to be.

Rockys 7th birthday!

This kid is so much fun! He is the most determined of us all. He loves playing games just to play and is completely ok with losing. He enjoys the journey. He knows what he wants and he is diligent in achieving it. He's got the deepest gravely 7 year old voice I've ever heard and is a solid muscle head to toe. He loves little Prim and he plays so sweetly with her.  He's gotten really good at sharing with Sundance. He is the strong silent type. A man of few words. He loves to be outdoors and active. He is so rough and tumble most of the time but then will shock you with the gentle underneath. He's so smart! He designed his own birthday cake and has a happy disposition. I can logic and reason with him easily he understands common sense at an early age. Which is good but sometimes makes me feel you are growing up to fast. Oh my sweet boy what a pleasure and blessing it is to be called your mother. My heart aches with love for you. Xoxo for eternity.
